Short Stories 93 — Ethos of Man (Part 33)
The toughest day of our training was over. We were beet in just a few hours. Usually, we can train for an entire day. But with the armor and this gap of a month between the last actual training, it took a lot out of us. Yet we enjoyed every single moment of it. It was the best training session so far. We did not like the armor but it is doing one amazing thing and that is, it changes our perspective. The whole fighting changes with this and we never noticed that until we were burdened with it.
“Corvin! I am going to go home eat all the food I can and go to sleep. I want nothing else.” Arthen said as both of us were on the floor. “Yes. But for that, we need to go home. And we have a long walk ahead of us.” I continued.
“Oh, Shit! I completely forgot about that. Let’s see if we can find a ride home. Or any of the troops from our group going our way. If yes then we can tag along.” Arthen raced his mind to avoid a long walk home. And I must say I am impressed with it. That is one thing about Arthen that I really envy and that is that he will always find another way. I tend to think by the rules, while he just bends them according to his will.
That is one characteristic that I really appreciate about him. I was thinking, we will walk the whole way and it will be good for our overall endurance. My thought process was that it will be a good part of another training. It will be good for us.
But it does not hurt if we take a little breather for today. As we have already gone so hard. I wouldn’t have thought of that. If I was alone. I would have walked all the way home. I wouldn’t have thought of a way around it. But that is what happens there are two people. both think differently and so there are more answers to the same solution.
We took rest for few hours as our training was done early. We rested for 2 hours and by then our body was aching. Our legs were numb. After such harsh training, maybe it would have been a better idea to stay here. But I wanted to go home, as mom was alone. And since I was going home Arthen too decided to go home. I felt like if it wasn’t for me, he wouldn’t have gone home. He would have stayed here instead.
None of the soldiers were being deployed from our group to a mission so we had to walk and so we did. We started our journey and we got lucky. A caravan was passing through and they agreed to give us a lift. It was a small caravan of gypsies that were moving away from the battle. The place that they were staying currently was the focal point where a skirmish broke out and they were forced to get out from there.
So they were doing what gypsies do best. They started their journey to finds a new settlement. They have been traveling for a few days now in search of a new place to live. And they are headed towards the mountains. Exactly near our place. They have heard that it is a good place to stay as it is far away from all the battles and which is completely true in our opinion. So if they like the spot they might make a new settlement right in the cradle of the mountains.
